Default I Love My Amazon

Just a quick few words of deserving praise for my faithful friend. This 1970 car has been mine for 3 years now and just gets better. Last year I did over 6000 miles using the Amazon on a daily basis from Northampton to Milton Keynes. Ive been through torrential rain, blistering heat and traffic jams, ice, snow and all the in betweens with the car trundling through it all like a good un. The only issue I had recently before Charlie Garrett sorted the steering was an annoying occasional drip onto my right leg during heavy rain. I cured this by using clear sealant all the way along the seam weld behind the scuttle / above the heater box , and also filled in the gaps at either end. I then carefully re sealed the windscreen again with black sealant, smoothing over with a wet finger to get a nice finish. Never had a problem since with leaks. Keeping eye on this though , as when I lifted the interior windscreen surround, noticed some of the metal underneath the screen had started to rot out which obviously hasnt helped.
Other than that, check the oil every Saturday, change it every 4 months, the spark plugs every 6 months and that s it! (touch wood) . I am told that with regular maintenance and a bit of love, the engine will go on for 200000 miles plus before needing a rebuild.....awesome.
This year Ill carry on tarting the interior barring any disasters.
Bit worried about the cost of next years welding and know I could probably buy a good motor with everything done for the same money. But as I type this and can see my old mate standing solidly on the drive ...I have to say that I really dont think I could bear to part with her now.
Happy motoring chaps.

Congratulations, this is what being a member of the VOC's all about...

I'm hoping my 745 lasts as long, at 1990 and 150k miles (although the instruments show 272000) it's a mere whippersnapper.

Just to add my 2 krone: having slapped a Thule roofrack on my Amazon this weekend I was able to transport a 12-stone wooden bench down the M11, and take 2 huge sofas to the tip, and all this without a murmour of complaint from either driver or car.

I know you can do this with most cars, but I was very pleased with the old thing, still proving its worth after 40 years as a strong working vehicle.

Is that all? I've seen a stripped Amazon saloon bodyshell being transported on the roof of an Amazon estate!!
