Published figures

Chill All,

It has been a long time since i have been on this forum.....Have owned the following Volvos in the past 3-4 years:

480 Turbo
855 T5 auto
S70 T5

Now thinking of coming back to Volvo as a work horse and am therefore looking at Diesel !

I am after a fast diesel under £9,000.

i have borrowed the folloing from family or friends and they are not too bad:

320d
Golf TDI 130 6-speed
Audi A4 2.5 TDI

What is the Volvo going to offer me that the above cars cannot as performance the D5 is lagging according to the publised figures. (9.2 0-60)

What are the mid range figures like?
Standard 1/4 mile?

I would like to RICA chip the D5, will this unlease somthing special?

But seriously: Adam at VT was running his RICAd D5 on the 1/4 mile strip at Avon a month or so ago so he should be able to give you some accurate performance figures. Presumably the other tuners (MTE, BSR...) can offer ECU upgrades that will work wonders as well?

In a word, yes! It will make it significantly faster than the BMW 330D for example.

Andy McL who posts on these fora has a V70 TDI classic with a superchip in it. It is as near as makes very little odds as fast as my T5 but returns about 60% more mpg than mine!

I suspect a RICA chip would be just as quick.

These things are rapid.....no jokes please ! Have you ever driven one...in the mid range they pull is amazing...

If I go for the D5 S60 and then RICA chip it.....If I get near a 330d, i'd be more than happy...

If you could post some figure if you have, 0-60, 1/4 50-70 etc etc...

I'll go fo the D5 S0 !

I have driven quite a few 330D. The RICA, although quoted at 198 bhp, has been indepently dyno'd at 204 bhp, and there is a sports tune available with 215 bhp. Don't know what the figures are that you want, because I haven't measured them. You would need to measure yours when standard, and then compare when modified.

Alternatively wait until the new 185 bhp D5 comes out, because that will tune to about 230-240 bhp. Seriously fast!

I can wait for the new version as I can only affort a used D5...It will be the 4th car on my drive !
