Default RSE /AUX Switch in trans tunnel

Hi all,

I've just bought a 2011 XC90 SE Lux. Nice car, apart from the infotainment system really showing its age - even my dad's 2005 BMW 3 series is a million years ahead. Luckily the rest of the car makes up for the pre-historic setup.

Anyway, my car has the rear seat entertainment system installed. It kinda works, the main issue being a broken switch in the trans tunnel which allows for the DVD audio to be played through the speakers. I'll be getting some new IR headphones for the kids so I don't have to hear it, but I still want to fix the switch. Volvo have told me the part number is 31324131, and it is..... £72!!

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can solve this more cheaply!?

This seems to be a unique part and therefore you have no choice but to use their part. Welcome to the world of Volvo spares!

Options:

1. Dismantle and repair the switch (depending on what has broken and the nature of the break)

2. search Ebay / wreckers for 2nd hand parts

3. Go to Volvo for a new part

4. Fit some other non-original switch

The switch is a simple toggle switch, depending on your resourscefulness and the nature of the breakage you may be able to find similar toggle switches which you can scavenge for parts.

Yeah I think it's a simple DPDT switch (i.e. on-on). I left it at home so I should really get on with some real work rather than trawling the internet for a replacement, with only my memory of what it looks like to go by.

The switch itself is knackered, not just the plastic bit at the top. I suppose I could try and find one from a breakers but my guess is there aren't going to be too many of them about.

Edit: No. 3 is a last resort!

You could try phoning FRF Volvo, they might do a discount for you when you quote the forum code (C3)

Resurrecting this thread as I have the same problem.

The RSE/AUX switch is completely smashed.

bjh1977 - did you come up with a good solution to this?

They made a mistake , that part number is for the complete AUX install kit !
You want the switch which is 31324132 about £10 from memory !!

Ah! you're right, thanks. Searching online I see many sources for the part in the US, but none in the UK. Does anyone know of a UK-based genuine Volvo parts shop?
