Update... My car has been looked at on Tuesday and thermostat has been replaced as a result.
On a mid-range run to/from Heathrow during the week coolant has reached and stayed around 95 degrees after ca. 10 min of driving. The air blowing into the cabin was now hot (to say at least!). So that bit is definitely sorted. It's a shame that I have not reacted when car was still under warranty but hey... I wonder if I encounter difference in behaviour and fuel consumption in the next few weeks? Will keep you updated. Thanks for all the comments and apologies for lenghty 'rantifications' EDIT: spelling Last edited by krzemien; Mar 23rd, 2013 at 12:08. |

I find it strange on these later cars that a faulty thermostat isn't triggering a fault code and putting the check engine light on as it does on my phase one V70:
P0115 Engine coolant Temperature circuit malfunction P0116 Engine coolant Temperature circuit Range/ Performance P0128 Coolant Thermostat Malfunction Any one of the above can be found when the stat decides to play up, it also fails safe and turns the radiator fan on to full high speed further cooling an already cool engine, and leaves the radiator fan on for two minutes after you shut down. The ECU is expecting the engine coolant tewmperature to climb following a predefined slope, go outside of this and it triggers the fault. I know the stat on my V70 is starting to play up as it is taking quite a bit longer to get to temperature so it will be getting a new one fitted later today, as yet the ECU hasn't thrown the CEL light on as the fault obviously isn't bad enough but I know it isn't right - Mike |

Quick one from my side: having made few hundred miles since the last post I can confirm that (obviusly) heating now definitely works as expected. It's even more important that you think as Spring still cannot make its way to the UK...
What I cannot see sadly is any MPG improvement - it stubbornly stays where it was before. I have not expected this though but was just curious... |
