Smile possible S40 purchase

Found panama yellow T4 auto SE 86k 2001 51reg full volvo history up at £5995 little expensive but maybe able to barter, it's the 86k which worries me, would it be a wise buy with that mileage?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Mileage is not a problem as long as it has full service history and the car has not been sitting around for too long. The cambelt service is probably due around 90k miles, so make sure that has been done and documented; if not, budget around £300 to get that done. I would recommend getting the registration number, and then calling your local Volvo dealer to verify the service history, all the warranty work and also mileage.

When you get the car, I would recommend changing all the fluids / lubricants so again, try to budget for that as it will give you peace of mind. £6k is a bit steep so make sure you haggle really hard.

I bought a 2000 T4 in panama yellow in november with 116k on the clock for £3500 from a volvo dealer.. and i had similar concerns as you.. ppl going on about never to buy a car with high mileage etc..

the car drives superbly.. you wouldnt have though the engine had done over 100k.. so my advice is if the rest of the car checks out ok.. then go for it! 86K is peanuts really..

you wont really now of the car has some underlying probs until you have driven it for a while i guess .. my one is burning oil and.. theres a power steering fluid leak..

good luck

Well, you already know my opinion. Take it for a test drive, if everything seems OK, barter them down coz 6k is a lot of money, even if it does have everything Volvo could throw at it. Panama yellow T4s are pretty rare, especially in automatics, so I say GO FOR IT

I think 6K is far too much for a 5 / 6 year old S40 T4 with 86K on it. I doubt you would get a good warranty either on a vehicle of that age through the seller. I'd wait for a keener priced one to come along or at least look to get a grand knocked off the price of the T4 you are on about.
