Default strange gap under headlghts

Hi all - I wondered if anyone could help me - I'm about to buy an x-reg 2000 S40 and wondered if anyone could shed some light on a strange gap under the headlights please.

Basically, where the bottom of the headlight glass should meet the bumper there is a gap - it is almost as though there should be a plastic insert in there. The edges of the gap at the ends nearest the grill also look like they have been cut in some way.

I have attached a piccie taken from the advert so you can see what I mean

(you can just see the gap on the passenger side of the bumper - Ignore the ding in the bonnet LOL).

Any ideas on why this gap is there please ?

By the way, I have also attached another pic where you can't actually see the gap but I have put a yellow ellipse around the area where it is.

Many thanks in advance

My undamaged car has a approx 5mm gap there which is nearly vertical, so little horizontal measurement. So something ain't right there, could be that the headlight has been hit pushing it backwards or the bumper isn't mounted properly.

Did both sides have the same gap?

Hi Phil - thanks for the reply - both sides have exactly the same gap.

Is the gap constant all the way along the headlight?

It sure is - right along the bottom of the headlight (although not on the indicators which marry to the bumpers.

For all the world it looks like there should be a plastic insert that drops in there LOL!

Odd, all I can think is that the bumper isn't fastened back properly or the headlights have been hit/ moved at some point. Unless someone else on here knows different?

Am I correct to say those are phase 2 headlights on a phase 1 car? Maybe the headlights in the phase 2 sit back slightly further?

I would say the centre of the bumper has had quite a wallop dead centre and straightened it instead of having a curve ...
