UKCobra. I've got 8,000 miles on my XC90 D5 200bhp and it's only now starting to "loosen up". V-Power is 50% placebo [marketing] and 50% science [the additive they put in]. I use it when I fill up at a Shell garage, but don't bother if I fill up elsewhere. Can confirm I put a bottle of RedEx injector cleaner through once every 4000 miles regardless.

Not sure if something can be a placebo if it actually works as intended due to the addition of specific chemicals designed to produce that change??

I enjoy the smoother and more responsive engine using V-Power. This seems to be due to lubricating additives that also protect the engine, I'm not too bothered if I pay a bit more for it.

I think you will see from figures I will post in the next couple of days that V Power is indeed not a "placebo"

As for you're Redex that stuff doesn't sit well in the common rail engines and can actually reduce the MPG

I run my XC90 only on V power. Did one tank on Sainsburys, noticably rougher, and mpg dropped by 2 on like for like trips. Odd.....

T2 - 29.8 *note: I added Redex in with this fill up (mistake)
T3 - 28.6
T4 - 29.4
T5 - 28.1

So that gives Regular Shell Diesel an average of 29.3 MPG in my XC.

I have filled up with V-Power diesel this morning so will keep you posted on how things work out with that.

Here are the figures from the V-Power tankfuls...

T1 - 31.9
T2 - 31.8
T3 - 30.7
T4 - 31.6
T5 - 33.0

So that gives Shell V-Power diesel an average of 31.8 MPG in my XC.

I was hoping for a 10% increase in mpg but have come up slightly short as you can see, I think the car is running better on this fuel but cannot say for certain as I don't know it well enough having only owned it for a short time.

However, Think I will continue using V for the time being.

@Nemesis - interesting, I make that around an 8% improvement on average, which offsets the extra cost by a couple of percent.

Also, did the V-Power usage coincide with the colder weather in December? Cold ambient temps usually increase consumption.

Default Case for petrol?

Although I have only used V Power once as per the attached information, you will note that it didn't really make any difference to the poor mpg figures 25.55 mpg overall (computer calculates 26.1 mpg) and I do try to ensure my expenditure on fuel is sensible, although I don't drive like a saint. All the records were made using Gas Cubby iPhone app which is well worth getting.

Need to use at least 5 tank fulls to show any improvement

Craig, I think that all ten tanks measured were in the of last two weeks Nov thru to Christmas, temperatures up here in Central Scotland have been very mild I think in this period.

Shell Station in Hamilton is currently pricing V-Power diesel at 146.9p and regular at 138.9p per litre.
