2.0 V40 Tractor
Hey People,
My other halfs sister has a high mileage V40 2.0 (approx 200,000 km) and on Friday the car suddenly started driving like someone stole half the engine. The exhaust is blowing quite a bit, but the worrying part is when she revs is it sounds like only 2 or 3 cylinders are fireing (spluttering until high revs have been reached). Would a knackered exhaust couse this on a V40? Also the engine mount on the drivers side (in the UK) is catching the body work on both sides - it's started to wear the paint on the bodywork, and I can move the engine around the engine bay by hand. A few of you have mentioned the engine mounts - do these sound about shot? And finally - what the hell have they done to the engine bays? You can't see a bloody thing under there! I thought the 440 was bad for a DIY mechanic - but the V40 is a joke, God do I miss the engine from the Spitty! Stu |

Stu, the mounts are Donald Ducked, they will need replacing. The blowing exhaust could cause the problems, it depends exactly where the hole is -- if it's on the manifold or before the cat then it will cause problems. Is the "check engine" light on? If it isn't it could be just the warning bulb is gone ...
I'd suggest getting the exhaust done first, then see how it's going. |

Thats what I was thinking - I just wanted to see what you experts thought before I suggested something wrong to her!
Where is the cat in a V40 - the exhaust is totally cream crackered, it's blowing from the back box, and somewhere along the middle.... I'll tell her to get the check engine bulb checked as I was surprised that it could sound like that without any kind of warning light... Again, Cheers, I'll let you know how it goes! Stu |

Stu,
the cat is pretty close to the downpipe from the manifold, you can actually see it if you look down at the back of the engine bay. Cheers, Craig |

RE: 2.0 V40 Tractor
It would definately be after the cat then...
It's now been to be looked at by Volvo - apparently it's pretty screwed up. There is lpg and petrol going into the engine at the same time, as well as the stuff mentioned already! Thanks for you advice! Stu |
