V50 2009 - intermittent electrical gremlins
My 2.0 diesel 2009 V50 has had intermittent electrical gremlins for as long as I've owned it. Sometimes it'll be fine for months, other times it will show all manner of different errors even when nothing is wrong.
Initially it would show a Brake Failure error and go into limp mode. I had the brakes checked and everything was fine. The error log had completely filled up. It was reset and everything was fine for a little while then the error kept coming back. Eventually after lots of back and forth and getting nowhere I got in touch with a Volvo engineer who said it was likely dry joints in the wiring loom. He disconnected the wiring blocks, gave all the contacts a brush and a clean with electric contact spray and connected everything back up. This fixed the issue, and I've had no repeat of this particular warning. However, lately I've had the same symptoms but the first time relating to a false accelerator pedal sensor fault. Again a clean and brush sorted it. But then this weekend I had SBS Airbag fail and my fob stopped working. Drove home, brushed and cleaned and it seems to have sorted itself out again, but I'm worried what's coming next. In addition to this and I've started a separate thread, I've also had intermittent misreporting by my fuel guage and given that replacing the fuel sender didn't fix it, I'm starting to wonder if all these issues are related. In addition to this, ever since these issues began my cruise control stopped working, but after each clean/brush it will work again while the car is stationery, but then never again when it's moving. Sorry for the infodump, but there's a lot of symptoms and it's frustrating. Any suggestions other than "scrap it, it's 14 years old". |

check battery voltage and check alternator output . clean and remake battery connections check all earth connectors these are your first checks. how old is your battery? low voltage can cause all kinds of electrical messages to show. After doing the basic electrical checks check and clean cem plugs
