Smile new member XC90 help please

Hi Everyone, just joined as I'm currently thinking of upgrading my Audi A4 as my wife is expecting twins. I have seen a 55 plate 163 bhp exec i liked the look off but it's a few hours drive away so I test drove a demonstrator at my local Volvo today which was the 185 BHP and found it a bit sluggish without putting the foot down. Has anyone superchipped the 163 and if so what kind of extra power has this given. any help much appreciated

Default RICA 226bhp mod

I am a new xc owner, having delayed purchase for about 3 years waiting for a powerful diesel! Couldn't wait any longer (4th child) so I went for a RICA chip (£600) which takes the 185 D5 to 226bhp. I think the same chip takes the 163 to 226 as well, but that is a big increase so I am not sure about reliability ... etc.

My 226 is much better than the 185, BUT you can still feel that lag from low speed acceleration. It's a lot better than standard, but not as good as BMW/Merc cars.

Mid range speed is great. Lots of pull, so no problems when you are up to 30mph.

Real world mpg is not good. around town 25mpg, mixed 28mpg, rare 34mpg on a 600mile trip, doing 75mph on m/way.

Go for it!

Not all XC90's seem to suffer from lag looking at posts about this issue. My 03 model dosn't. More importantly your family will have the best crash protection money can buy. Take a look at the XC90 crash tests on YouTube.

I've had Audi, VW and Merc. cars but I still think that Volvo make the best bodies in the business.

All the best.

Roy
