Default Pheasants are tougher than headlights!

A rather large bird decided it had had enough of life and flew straight into the off side head light today. All lights still work, but totally smashed the casing. I've just taped a white bag over it to waterproof it for now. Fortunately the lights still show through.

I'm guessing it's a complete unit?

I'll give my local volvo dealer a ring in the morning and find out how much a new one is, and a cover for the light wash unit as that got taken out too, but is there a good online place you guys and girls use for parts like this or is it just eBay?

The main dealer were much cheaper for the plastic seat trim (around the drivers seat controls) that was broken when I bought the car. It was £30 on eBay, but only £15 from the dealer.

Also, is it a simple thing to replace, or does the bumper and half the front need to come off first?

Thanks in advance,

Zero.

Headlights are tastier, pheasant tastes like meat flavoured chewing gum. Yeeuch, I have shot hundreds of them and only ever ate one.

Oh dear... Head lights aren't cheap as they are sought after due to the problems with the lenses crazing over with age. I think new ones start at around £200 on e-bay.

With regard to the washer you should be able to get a second hand one painted in your colour, I think the bumper does have to come off but this is not difficult.

Headlights are a complete unit and are not cheap even second hand. If it's a xenon one then you are looking at around £500 new for one.

You can get at the headlight washer motor by just popping out the headlight and scrambling around a bit, it's quite easy to remove without touching the bumper, the coloured spray cover just clips on from memory.

£500 for a replacement headlight? Surely you can buy the casing alone for a lot less than that? I would have thought that is all most people need when swapping it out.

Funny how the main dealer is sometimes cheaper for parts. I got a replacement handle for the third row of seats at around £12, but all the breakers wanted £30 plus.

Headlamp cover/casing/lens whatever you want to call it is neither removable or available separately for XC90, it is indeed a complete replacement headlamp if one gets smashed! Sorry.

If you can't find a decent second hand one at a sensible price, Euro Car Parts are about the best for new ones at around £230 each!

Good lord! So you can't pull the light sockets out of the casing to change the bulbs?!!

Cool

Yes of course you can!!, the entire lamp unit is removable from the car by taking out two retaining pins from the front panel under the bonnet so that bulb access is gained from the back of the lamp.

As I said, what you can't do is remove/separate the plastic lens cover from the lamp assembly and you can't buy a new bare headlamp 'carcass', only a complete lamp with all of the components in place.

I belive that the halogen headlights are cheaper as the xenon one I have a price for was complete with lamps and ballest.
