Default What should my rpm be at idle?

Got my new V70 last night and apart from a few niggles (cruise control not working etc) which will be fixed it is very nice.

The only thing I found strange was that when idling the revs are at about 500 rpm. It sounds kind of grumbly and you have to give it a bit of gas to get going when parking and things.

Is this normal? My Golf that I traded in yesterday sat at around 1000 and you could move around just on the clutch quite happily.

Might just be something I have to get used to but I was just wondering if you could just change the idle setting or something.

Default idle speed

the idle speed is controled by the ecu system. if your idle speed is fluctuating, it proberbly needs the idle control cleaning, this is achieved by spaying it with carburettor cleaner to release the goo.

You dont say how old your V70 is K ? But if its anything to go by, my 98

Sorry, forgot to mention that - it's a 2001 Y. 2.4 170bhp if that matters.

It's not actually fluctuating - just sits consistently at 500 or so.

Dont think it really matters how old it is K, but 500 does seem kinda low.

Most cars normally sit at around 800-1000 whether it be a Mini or Roller.

Might be worth a call to your local Dealer, just to be sure. DB.

Come on chaps...Someone else on here Must have 2001 Y 2.4 V70 ??

Hi,

500rpm does sound low. My V70 2002 140 sits around the 900.

Hiya

Had mine about a month now (2001 2.0T), have to say dispite the odd blip its rock steady at 600 rpm. I think 500 might be pushing it but at 600 it sounds perfect to me.

It was serviced on Tuesday before I picked it up. I don't know what was in it when I got it but it has a tank full of regular Shell now.

It's going back anyway to fix a couple of things so I'll mention this too.

I'm getting used to it though - just using a bit more gas than I'm used to for slow maneouvering.
