What were the codes that came up?

Are they just guessing that it is the ECU that is at fault?

As to the emission problems is it ok if you run on petrol only?

check out many threads on this site on the subject, and possible 'simple' low cost cures (for a possibily temporay cure, try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins or so).

Default s80 going mad

Thanks chaps for your replies firstly, problem on both fuels it makes no difference I have not tried to disconect battery as yet will try later, however, i did take the fuse out for abs sts light went off for very short time at idle, moved the car say 10" forward light back on

the parts required according to main dealer are V08644347 Throttle housing
fault ECM 914F

Control Unit V08619544
fault ABS 0093

does this make sense to any one???? or am I helpless and pay the dealers.

I have read on this site other people suffering the same/similer problems and got away by cleaning or changing air mass metre, and others have paid dealers and are no closer to resolving the issue.

I would welcome any suggestions, tried to look on ebay for air mass unit none at present

kind regards sam

Fault ECM 914F = internal fault in the throttle control module.
If this code is logged on it's own then the most likely cause is an old version of software in the module, this can be upgraded at mininal cost.

ABS 0093 = No load signal from engine control module.
This may be due to the above fault and does not indicate a fault with the ABS module itself.

I would ask the dealers if they have investigated the software version in the throttle control module ask what version no. is in there, also read the ETM threads in the 850 & 70 series forums go armed with some knowledge be polite but don't be fobbed off.

BTW software for the throttle module costs the dealer £29.

Hi, Chris appreciate all the sound advise you are giving cheerrs pal.

I disconnected the battery all the lights bar one red triangle with ! inside, drove the car for about a mile to a petrol station upon restart Xmas tree again.

Chris would it be cheeky if I dropped the car off to you and at your leasure get it right I don't mind paying you I don't expect anything for free at least I won't get ripped off by a volvo dealer

keep you posted once i have replaced air mass meter and cleaned throttle body, do let me know when i can drop the car off .

kind regards Sam

Sorry you will have to go to a dealer, I don't have the facility to download software into your car.

I doubt if an air mass meter will help, save your money for new software for thr throttle body.

Hi, cleaned throttle body today throughly disconnect battery now i am only getting traction, ABS with message brake failure stop safely these lights came on instantly as soon as turned ignition on

Chris am I right in thinking there are 2 types of software upgrade 1 for throttle body and 2 for abs control unit ????

spoke to volvo uk who gave me a "file" number which i must quote to dealers this will allow them to give me a free software upgrade on the throttle body

an independent volvo garage advises me it could be a speed sensor but cannot confirm for sure could this be a cause???? how can i check myself any ideas???

please bear in mind disconnecting the battery is not having any effect now

kind regards Sam

There is just one software upgrade, for the thottle unit.

The fault code you gave for the ABS "ABS 0093 = No load signal from engine control module" this suggests the problem is a lack of load signal from the engine control module.
This signal is in the data transfered over a CAN (Data bus), the same bus is used to transfer the vehicle speed signal from the ABS module to the engine control module and speedo. If the speedo is working clearly there is nothing wrong with the bus and the fault lies with the engine control module or the throttle module.
If there are other faults with the ABS system further fault codes will be stored in the ABS module, as you only listed one I assume there was only one.

Hi chris, sorry to be a pest as i mentioned before throttle body cleaned no more emmissions light

however, message saying brake failure stop asap along side lamda, traction, abs and brakefailure red light(!) something like this are all on and yellow ! in a triangle disconnecting battery not helping, they appear immediatly as soon as engine started.

The drive of the car is spot on, no power loss or brake problems i have contacted dealers today to book in for ecu upload as advised by volvo uk still can't figure out idle, performance everything indicates that throttle body behaving proberly and now no emissions message either, how has this effected the abs module??? also why the red (!) brake failure light on, thought that if abs not working only abs light and sts light would come on, according to hand book check fluid level on my car this is all ok

would it be possible to have same year donar car and try and swap module over would this work????
