Default Loud Crack

Heard a loud crack today, sounded like a brick had been thrown at the window. I stopped but could not find any marks.

I later went to McDonalds and tried to open the window. Another horrible noise and only the front of the window came down. What happened? Why did it happen?

It seems weired that it snapped when the window had been closed for a while already, Could the motor have jammed on, continually trying to close the window further?

The car is 2 months past 3 years old so out of standard warranty, but luckily for me I have an extra year!!!!

Popped in to the dealers this afternoon (Coventry Tolbar, very helpful), they agreed to look at it today and would be in touch tomorrow. Hopefully it'll e covered on the extended warranty?

I have a S60 D5 SE, (9 Jan 04) and thinking about taking an extended warranty, how much did you pay for your warranty or did it come with the car. I have had a quote from Warranty direct for almost £400.00 for 12mths - is this good value? Have thought about putting the cash aside and doing a DIY warranty!

Window is all sorted, got the car back at lunch time. Thats good service in my book. Tjey even washed the car for me!!!!

So so far on the extended warranty Ive had:
Front wishbone bushes.
Clips on the boot lining.
Lecky Window mechanism.
Also
Could have had the top engine mounting too but fitted a poly bush myself.

I guess this lot would cost more than £400 from a dealer, maybe slightly less from a good independent??? But does this amount usually go wrong? I uess it depends up on milage, mines only done 32,000. but i drive it hard (doesnt explain the window). The extra 12 month Warranty came with the car.
