Battery replacement
So I'm looking at replacement batteries for the XC90.
Years ago, we had an LR Discovery z which started to have starting issues, sluggish to turn over. The battery finally gave up in winter. IIRC, it was rated at 550 CCA. I replaced it with a 1000 CCA marine rated battery. I remember that marine rating was slightly different, but it was still over-specc'd for the job. Never had a car start up so quick. Has anyone replaced an XC90 battery with something so over the top? And is there any detriment in doing so?

I don't think there would be any detriment, but you would need to consider the shape/size of it. It's in the boot and has a plastic cover that fits snugly over it.

Good battery makes a big difference
Hi, I replaced mine in autumn with a new Bosch one with 900 CCA I recall, car has never started so well.
I did quite a lot of research and it seems the starter pulls a maximum of about 250 amps, so it is actually irrelevant if the battery is rated at 800 or 1000 CCA.. Not done my own research on this so don't shoot the messenger, just a bit of info to consider if it helps. (PS about £90-100 seems to be the going rate for a good branded battery, think Volvo is about the same). Good luck.

FYI
The standard battery fitted to a XC90 D5 Diesel is a 90 Ah, 800 CCA battery. Never under-size the battery.

These are the Volvo specs for the genuine batteries. My take is to stick with the genuine CCA rating. I put a larger battery with more CCA and the starter was spinning too fast in summer time, that may damage the flywheel and maybe even the starter if the car wouldn't start and one would keep cranking for longer time http://www.volvohowto.com/volvo-batt...-volvo-models/
