Default 2002 V70 -Suspension - maybe

Hi All,

I have noticed a bit of a clunking/rattle in my car I think it comes from the rear right side of the car - it really is a bit hard to tell.

Has anyone else heard a similar noise and if so what did it turn out to be?

I think it is one of those problems that could cost a lot to find and then maybe threepence ha'penny to fix if I was to take the car to 'the man'

Cheers

I had this problem once when I bought a strut mount from PartsMonster on eBay which turned out to be utter and complete rubbish.

The metal part of the strut mount inside the rubber bit was banging against the metal of the car body.

I also have had knockings which turned out to be dampers - in my case, Anschler dampers which turned which were neither use nor ornament. That particular knocking went when replaced by Sachs which are one of the OEM suppliers.

I have just started to suffer this problem. It's felt as a clunk on "high speed" compression - that doesn't mean when I'm going fast; it means when there is a sharp bump as opposed to a less acute bump. I haven't investigated yet but assumed it would be the suspension mounts

Thanks for the advice.

The difficult thing is that it only seems to occur when I am driving and so it is a little (read a lot) difficult to determine what the problem is. I haven't tried springing the car whilst it is stationary I must admit. It is a bit difficult to find a spot to put some weight in the car. On my old 240 I could stand on the bumper bar and spring the car up and down.

I shall investigate your suggestions and report back.

I had a knocking coming from my old V90 about 18 months back which despite my best efforts I was unable to identify.
I took the car into my local Kwik Fit and dropped the MOT tester a drink He stuck the car on the the ATL ramps and gave it a shake while we had a nose around underneath. We quickly found the offending bushes and they were swapped.

I have a similar problem & I think the Volvo technician it is the strut top mounts/bushes that need replacing (something like that I can't remember exactly), might be worth a look anyway.
