XC90 Diesel Engine Differences
Hi all,
I'm considering the purchase of an XC90 diesel and would like to know the differences between the different ones that have been used in the XC90 over its life. As far as I know these are: 2.4D, D5, D5 (Euro IV) and D5 AWD (185PS). I'm interested in power, torque, emmisions etc and when each was used. I've heard that the "older" diesel was somewhat under-powered but I not sure which engine this relates too. Many thanks in advance. Cheers Ian |

A simple guide
The big difference is that between those with 163bhp and 185bhp. The former is considered by the motoring press to leave the XC90 underpowered and many owners have confirmed that they feel the same.
I have the 185bhp D5 and, whilst it is no rocket, I rarely consider myself lacking in power when it needs to deliver. If you're considering an XC90 as a purchase then the later 185bhp D5 is the one for you, providing it's within your price range. This engine can achieve 33-35mpg providing your right foot is not too heavy. This is an amazing return for such a heavy, AWD car. The petrol versions offer great performance but frightening fuel consumption. Can't offer any more detail - I just drive it! Best wishes. Arianne. |
