Default Power System Service Urgent

Hi

I have a 2005 xc90, d5 with 103k on the clock. Recently I've been getting the message: Power System Service Urgent, a red triangle and the battery light come on. It stays on for about 10-15 secs whilst driving, then goes out. i've just finished an approx 120 mile journey and it came on twice in that time.

From other posts on here I think it must be to do with the alternator and/or battery but none of the posts I've seen show a resolution.

Anyone shed any light on it before I go running to a garage?

Thanks in advance

Chris

I had this warning a couple of times before my alternator failed for good. Might be worth sticking a multi meter on the battery whilst the engine is running to see how well it's charging.

My money would be on the alternator. I had the same symptoms when mine went and at that age/mileage might not be unrealistic either.
They are not cheap from Volvo - but if you can find a Bosch motor factors close enough you will save yourself a load of cash. If you can, read the s/n on the back of it and the Amp rating to make sure you get the right one
They are exchange items, so either need to leave a deposit - or take the old one with you.

At the time mine went, Volvo were happy to fit the one I supplied as they had the car anyway to confirm it was the alternator in the first place.

I have yet to have any problems with my battery !
