V70 2.5T SE Lux 2008 Engine damaged
I'm looking to sell what until last week was a very nice V70. But the air con compressor seized throwing its belt which caused the timing belt to jump. My local Volvo dealer put a camera inside each cylinder and can see clear damage to the top of one of the Pistons. Pic below. They couldn't see any damage to the others but I'm not going to claim that there won't be any. I'm sure the dealership service manager would be happy to take a call and tell you what they found.
Bodywork in very good condition except for damage to the skin of the rear offside door where my wife managed to catch the wall pulling out of the drive. Purchased from Volvo Newcastle in Oct'12. FVSH with receipts. Registered 10/6/2008. 85k on the clock and last serviced at 80,265. On SORN. Good tyres. Two new Pirellis at 82,874. Both front discs and pads replaced 15th Nov. Receipts. Top SE Lux spec. Cream leather, keyless, power tailgate, climate etc etc. Two keys. More photos available but I'm failing to upload them. Must be doing something wrong! Offers please. Located in Swindon, Wiltshire. More photos now uploaded to Flickr. Just search for Keith.ringshaw Last edited by Keithring; Jan 28th, 2017 at 21:05. Reason: More photos |

I'm sorry to hear this and what absolutely rotten luck, and such a shame as the rest of the car looks fantastic in the photos.
I'm not looking to buy a car, as I have my own V70 D5 of a similar reg, and hoping not to spoil your sales post, but can you advise if you received any early warning symptoms of this happening, like no cold air or strange noises? Just thought it may help me and others in the community if any lessons learned are available. I know a lot about the aux belt tensioner issues causing cam belt failure, but not the air con compressor seizing. Another thing to worry about! Good luck with the sale. |

Yes, very bad luck. Lovely car. Expensive road tax, but still a great vehicle. Now sold, and I hope it goes back on the road.
No, absolutely no warning of the compressor failure. Even though it's winter we always have the air con on as it helps with de-misting and keeps the seals lubricated. Would we have noticed if it was summer? I doubt it. Any loss of cooling performance I would have put down to a re-charge being needed. |
