3. Car internet doesnt work - not WIFI not bluetooth tethering etc...

They did try several resets etc... and I personally have unplugged it and checked all the connections.

Any idea who / how it can properly fault trace it?

thanks
It seems they have not done any fault tracing then .....
Only the dealer can do this with the tools they have ie Breakout box to get easy connections to all the wires going in and out , an oscilloscope , wiring diagram . Also VIDA which has all the information. They also have free help from the Volvo technical department available. The wiring diagrams are not freely available as VIDA is exclusively on a secure line now.
I wonder if they have even looked up any technical bulletins for your problem or even sent in a technical report asking for help .

I doubt many dealers these days will bother with this. Far quicker for them to just say a part is broken…. I’m just more surprised no one has had this issue.

No NO of course that is not how it works in this modern age where every step is audited. volvo will examine the unit when they get it back and there will be consequences if what you say is found to be true. Remember the garage does not know whether it is faulty or not at the moment from what I can make out...

The easiest way to determine its location is to lift the floor in the boot and you should be able to see whether the SIM card reader is visible on the right hand side as in pic 2. If so, the VCM is located above that. Otherwise, the VCM and SIM reader are located as in pic 1.
Mine was registered 1st March 2016. It is therefore i guess a MY16 car.

My SIM card holder is on the RHS of the boot underfloor, not the back.

If I haven't confused myself, this seems to contradict (or at least pose a question over) what you suggest for model years and the change of the location of the VCM?

It does. The two images in post 2 were taken from a Volvo tech document and were the source of the information. Looks like the doc is wrong then.

Or maybe being a T8 things were shuffled around in the boot to accommodate all the extra battery and ERAD control equipment?

I know that there is a lot more kit in there than an ICE only car, as I cannot have a spacesaver spare wheel unlike the other models.

Could be the case. I have a spacesaver wheel under the floor.

I can confirm the images are the wrong way round. Mine is a 2016 diesel and was like the latter picture.

Dealer has offered me £120 to try and diagnose the issue. although are pretty certain it is the VCM have said if I don't pay the £120, then purchasing the new VCM is at my own risk.

this all seems ridiculous.

Can you not just live with no sat navigation and be done with it? Guess it depends how long you plan to keep the car. Software updates from the dealer at service time are nothing necessarily to write home about.

Wondering if you have found a solution? I have the same problems that you have noted
