Head/gasket probs but D24TICs can soldier on a long time?
Knowing my car now, having had her a couple of months, my gut feeling has been telling me that my D24tic with almost definite head gasket problems will go on for a long time as it is (providing the coolant is topped up regularly) , I suspect that the previous owner had probably had this problem for a while. Once I have proper diagnosis next week I was going to query this with the garage. I've already done quite a few thou on this engine and it has not worsened. Today a 940 D24tic seller on Ebay quotes:
'it has a cylinder head problem. There appears to be a little oil in the water but the engine does not overheat or use undue amounts of water. There is no evidence of water in the oil whatosever nor has there ever been. My mechanic told me to live with the head problem until it becomes a problem. That was 9000 miles ago and the car has just completed a 700 mile round trip from London to Cornwall with four adults and associated luggage without problem. This car appears to be indestructible' Similar to mine, I don't use undue amounts of water and my plastic water reservoir has blackened, I wondered from a touch of oil in the water? Out of interest, is there anyone else out there with a D24tic head/head gasket problem who's finding that their engine has soldiered on like this for some time? They do appear to be very robust engines. I'm still having my work done, but just asking out of interest? |
