Unhappy Engine fan constantly running.

Hi,

Recently I have discovered that the main engine cooling fan is now constantly running whilst the engine is on, even when cold. I have a 2004 (54) S40 2.4 petrol. The engine has no problem in getting to temperature and staying there so I'm guessing the thermostat is OK. My main concern is that the fan is not designed to run at 100% all the time and will burn out over time. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

Many thanks,

Tim

Default fan

i would think its the temp sender for the fan or a fault in the wiring, this weather you could disconnect it via the plug in the wire and if you are stuck in traffic you can cool it by putting the heater on full and open a window if it gets to hot in the car,(but if your heater is as bad as my v40 that wont happen) another way is to put the aircon on which automaticly switches on the aircon fan

Thanks, I'll give it a try... I'll take it to a garage tomorrow and see if I can get a diagnostic done... £££ as usual for my trusty Volvo....
