Default Converting an 1800 to a Ferrari Lusso Replica

Aloha Guys,

I searched to see if this was already posted, but didn't look like it had been..

The prop guys for the movie Tower Heist needed to build a replica Ferrari Lusso that would get crashed at the end. Rather than destroy a real $1,000,000 Lusso, they rebuilt a Volvo 1800 into the replica.
Here's a link to the Youtube video showing how they did it...

I've always found it interesting how similar the 1800 is to a Lusso. As the guy points out, both cars were designed in Italy at about the same time, so it makes sense they look related.

But the thing I still don't get is why the Ferrari costs approximately 100x more!

I can see the Lusso being a million and the 1800 being $50K (20:1 ratio); if they'd kept the ratio they had at the time they were originally sold, the 1800 would be worth a whopping $350K (3:1)... but a decent 1800 can be had still for around $10K or even less, thus 100:1 ratio! I think that's truly crazy.

Yes Ferraris are rarer, faster, more nicely made, more prestigious - no doubt about it. But the ease with which this guy converts the 1800 to a very believable Lusso and how he remarks at their similar dimensions and shapes are; well it defies logic that the prices should be so skewed.
