4x100w Amplifier wiring into a V70
OK so got myself an SC901 and a 4x100w (alpine) amplifier.
Mounting it is no bother, will fit under the passenger seat, two studs down there will take one side, the other i'm sure I can make something! FIRST question speaker signal Wiring wise its plug and play like the smaller (black) amp's, they just have a link cable from the amp to the HU, then the speakers are fed from the HU's ISO multi block. The 4x100 appears to be.... Receives speaker input from HU via DIN cable. Amplifies signal Feed's to speakers directly. (centre channel feeds directly from HU/dolby unit) This puzzles the hell out of me as the C70 I pulled these parts from had the same old ISO multi block plugged into the back of it and seemingly to the speakers. SECOND question. POWER! The amp has a large gauge yellow and a large gauge black cable going into a connector block which then becomes a smaller black cable, and two smaller red cables. I assume because it needs a few amp's to power it, that it takes its power from TWO sources, hence the two cables, or there is an electronic interference issue thats worked around by using two smaller cables? Were it takes its power from I have no idea, must be a relay on the board under the bonnet next to air box as the other two boards are prob not meaty enough? THIRD question what the hell is this. On only one end of the DIN cable (Amp>HU) there are three wires that appear to plug into something else, possibly the dolby unit? Possibly the remote on switch? i have done this for my volvo awd project.
i'll post up a how-to this weekend with pictures. you'll need to bring the speaker wires from the gray connector above through the rear door loom grommits and connect directly to speakers while leaving the original wiring for speakers to the side. for the driver and passenger front you need to cut the wiring before the multi connector through the a-pillar and solder the wiring there to gain access to the front speakers. amp speaker feed from rear of radio drives the speakers through the amp so the current speaker looms in the car will be redundant. Also, the DYN-AUDIO speakers (if you have them) will not fit the body space of the doors so you'll need to keep your current speaker set-up. Alternatively, you could try purchasing alternative dyn-audio speakers that are exactly like the current car versions. I've wired it up into the engine with a relay under the dash but as i've just replaced the loom again in the car i can photograph everything on the loom to show you how to install this. Cheers Brendan

So what your saying is, I need to match up the outputs from the amp with the speaker loom, and you reckon tapping into the rear part way down the loom is neater?
IF thats the case I would sort of prefer making my own patch to sit between the amp and the ISO multi block behind the HU so that I can remove it at any time without making a mess of the cars loom. Posting a guide with photos would be much appreciated |

Had a good rummage through here but can't find reference to the 4x100w amp version in the C70. Maybe it was only on 2000-2004 cars that it came, and I cant' find a diagram for those, or maybe I'm blind! DarthVol, would love to see some pictures! Not far away from getting this done (booking a day off next week for it). |

Go to This Page and download the wiring diagram for the 1999 models that is 79,03MB in size, once you have the pdf on your PC open it and go to page 6 of the pdf, this shows the C70 headunit and amp wiring.
The headunit is item 16/1 the amp is 16/2 - Mike |
