Default Mike Corns

Nice to hear happy tales of Mike Corns.A larger than life character, who was loads of fun to be around.I built his p1800 rally car for him, which i believe his widow Wiz has, maybe in the south of france where I think she now lives. His yard was always full of old volvos,as well as some more exotic stuff. He did stage rallying till a couple of years before his death with Ana Goni in a David Sutton prepared mittsy evo something.he loved his historic stuff more though, less pressure, more fun!I think I first met him on a monte carlo historique rally, when I was servicing for Paul Wignall in the p.v.that I built for him.Mike was having propshaft u/j problems, but got them sorted with his usual humour and banter.Anybody know what happened to Mikes p.v? Cheers Dave

Hi Davidw, both the PV and the P1800 are here in Clonakilty in the South of Ireland at the moment, though what their eventual fate will be I don't know. The P1800 took up space in my garage for six months before moving to more luxurious quarters. That's a very nice motor in the P1800. It's difficult to get it off the line without spinning wheels. I'm not sure whether that is power or those worn forestry racers that Mike always favoured.

I'm being cheeky again... but I'd also love to see photos of these if you have any!

Thanks

John

Default p1800 rally car

Nice to hear they are both surviving,I seem to recall that Mike had the engine built by an engine shop somewhere in north east wales, south west lancashire area.I went with him to pick it up,and at the same time visited a triumph sports car centre near there. It would be nice to see some photos...Dave

David.

Thank you for the continued stories on vintage volvos and their owners.

Is there some mention that the rally 142 is being considered for sale? Out of pure interest, is there more details on it?

Regards

Mike.

Hi Mike, if you're still living in Kent then the Volvo is very close to you. It is in Berkshire. I can put you in touch with the owner if you wish.
