Broken fuel sender unit???
Am desperately hoping someone out there can help me. I own a volvo 440xi 1993 model. On Friday as I was driving up the M6 the fuel gauge suddenly dropprd to zero and the fuel light came on. Having visited a garage today, they say this is the fuel sender unit. Can anyone tell me if this sounds correct, or if it could be something else. Also, if it is that, where can I get the part cheaply... as a single mum and also having spent a lot on plugs, filters and a new wheel hub and bearing, I aren't in a position to buy the part new from Volvo as suggested by the garage, and all the scrap yards seem to have a shortage of this vehicle. Please, someone out there must have the adive I so desperately seek.

Fuel sender unit
Hi,
I can't confirm whether it's a coincidence or not that the 'fuel low' light came on, but I have had my 440 for 8 years now and the fuel gauge has NEVER worked. I just judge it by the 'fuel low' light entirely. In fact I've come to know how far I can get on it too ( I've never run out of petrol ). I was told that the fuel sender unit was dead on my car, but yet the fuel low light works perfectly, and has since 2001. I'd be a little shy of the fuel sender unit theory in your case. Well, there are two possibilities: I have been told porkies, or you have lol! I'm sure there are many others on here who can give you better detail, just thought I'd throw my experiences your way Best of luck, Tony
