Default OIL leak

Have a small oil leak. Just in the area circled in the photo. Cleaned it but cannot see any obvious leak, any ideas?.
Also the unit directly behind had a hose off, slipped it back on , should it have a clip? also would there be any reason to disconnect this, hide a fault of some kind for example?

It's oily exhaust gases. Not engine oil. See Baffler's fix here: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=114946

I've had something along those lines on my D5 which turned out to be the union between the turbo and intercooler in pipe which was misting oil vapour which then condensed and ended up all over the place.
Looked much worse than it turned out to be so I wouldn't worry too much and Gatos' suggestion sounds very credible.

It's a common issue on the 1.9D after many many thousands of miles and 8-10 years of use. I replaced the same gasket on mine and it solved the problem instantly

Volvo dealer, or even Renault dealer. Renault's price is half of what Volvo charges for the exact same part.

Renault part number: 7701059142

Or online here: http://www.allcarpartsfast.co.uk/ren...059142-gasket/

Not sure which hose (that was loose) you mean. Photo?

Thanks, the hose is a small 10mm one at about the 1 O'clock position just outside the red circle in the photo.

Have changed the seal and emptied a can of egr cleaner into it for good measure, seems to respond to throttle better, so hopefully mpg will improve as well, currently only get low 40's, though all town driving [school runs].

I get 44 mpg with 90% short trips in town (Horse-school-horse-home), so that seems correct.
Max in the truck lane on a long trip at 100k (60 mph) was very near to the text book 60 mpg.

What did your pour into the EGR ??? !!! (Hope it was not petrol).
