Default Dynamic drive mode vs polestar optimisation

Good evening all. I hope you can help a new s90 owner.

This morning I tried my s90 t4 in dynamic drive mode for the first time. Its always in comfort normally.

I was completely shocked to feel the instant difference compared to comfort. But, it bought to light a question.

How much difference would having polestar fitted, make to this? Would it be like that in comfort mode? Would it be the same difference again in dynamic?

How would polestar feel compared to dynamic?

I hope someone can answer.

Kind regards, Daniel

Kinda makes you wonder if Dynamic is Polestar and Polestar is simply Volvo enabling Dynamic as default rather than you having to order it off the wheel in the console.

There’s definitely a difference. There will be an increase in performance for starters. I found the polestar t5 held gear longer, changed gear quicker and throttle was quicker.

We aren’t talking night and day. But a significant improvement nonetheless. It’s a software tune at the end of the day.

They can install on your car and you can have your money back if you don’t see the improvement off the top of my head. Give it a go. 👍

Thankyou for the comment. Are gear changes noticeably smoother? Is there still a difference when switching to dynamic mode?

Regards

OK good. So do you still notice a difference between comfort and dynamic once polestar is fitted?

When choosing modes, it's now ECO, Comfort & Polestar** and yes, there is a big difference between Comfort & Polestar.

**
plus individual mode, where you can tweak things to your own preferences.

Polestar optimisation does make a difference to comfort mode. The gearbox is a little livelier and gear changes are smoother. It's subtle but noticeable. However it won't make comfort mode behave like dynamic mode does now. And, while comfort mode will be improved a little, there will still be a huge difference between comfort mode and polestar mode. Gearbox mapping, power curve, throttle response, steering feel and AWD behaviour are dramatically changed. It's unmistakable!

As it happens you can actually enable polestar mode yourself for a lot less than a dealer will charge you. There is a new piece of software called Orbit created by a fellow Volvo owner and software developer who uses the swedespeed forum. It allows you to change hundreds of parameters on SPA and CMA Volvos. It seems that when you go to a Volvo dealership to have polestar 'installed' they don't actually load any software to the car. They just enable a programme that's already in the CEM. By the same token you can enable android auto, car play, steering wheel paddles and much more. It's fantastic!! I'm not affiliated, I'm just a very happy user who has been able to add lovely features - that volvo themselves refused to add - to my car.

See www.spaycetech.com if you want to know more. All you need is an OBD to ethernet cable and a laptop. You'll have to pay once to get your CEM pin but that's no biggie.

I guess it would affect (void) the warranty as well.
