Default Clunk when drive engaged

2002 C705 speed auto box when giong from Park to Drive gear engages with obvious clunk.Have tried when stopping engaging handbrake changing into neutral releasing footbrake then back on footbrake and moving to Park.Have changed engine and gearbox mounts. Gearbox fluid change supposedly done Aug 2021 4500 miles ago. Car pulls away smoothly in Winter mode, but when cold 'bangs' into drive when footbrake stll depressed and put into drive from park. Auto gearbox specialist told me to live with it until it fails then scrap the car cos these boxes notorious and will cost more than car worth to sort. If it is first gear in box that has failed how expensive rebuild?

This is the main reason I chose a manual. Many otherwise good cars have been scrapped due to auto box issues.

Hi there with regards to your problem it would be easier to source a good second hand gearbox and have it fitted. I have recently bought a 850 auto with faulty gearbox and torque converter.I purchased a gearbox and had the torque converter rebuilt and fitted them myself the car had only covered 84000 so was worth saving. At the end of the day it depends how much you like the car and if you can do the work yourself as this will save you a lot of money best of luck what ever you decide.

Did you/they change both the lower torque rod (gearbox to subframe) and upper engine mount as together these can cause excess play/movement resulting in said "clunk"?

More importantly has the correct amount and type of JWS-3309 fluid/oil been used and did they carry out the gearbox adaptions (TCM reset) afterwards?

If the car is in otherwise good condition you may wish to consider going the EDT method: https://www.edtautomotive.com/locations/

Above originally posted in Tenuta's thread...see here: Wow - changed auto gearbox oil and now like new

Hi all,

There may be 5 or 6 "mounts" on a 2002 C70
eg Skandix

https://www.skandix.de/en/spare-part...-mounting/613/

and even that doesn't show the rear lower hydro bearing which I believe that car has.

HTH

Sorry, that Skandix page was set up to show me mounts for a 2002 C70, but you will have to go through the Skandix filter to get it to show you the same info.
