Thanks Alan. The funny thing is, as I said to my lad while we were doing the job, we were working with colours and shapes without the slightest understanding - Yellow to yellow via black square connection, and so on! It was enough to get us there tho... :-)

Fail:
Rear fog lamp switch not operating in accordance with the requirements (4.5.3 (a))
Offside Rear fog lamp not working (4.5.1 (a) (ii))
Nearside Rear Seat belt not functioning as intended (7.1.2 (c))
Then Pass!
(They fixed the bits as above.)
All good, tho we had the brake fluid and brake servo changed at the same time (I didn't want to get involved in that job) and one of the bleed nipples is seized, so we're going to get a new caliper.
Odd thing is that the brake peddle travels further before engaging now and makes a slight 'wooshing' sound as it depresses - with the engine off, it's as before, but travels further with the engine running. We'll get them to fit the new caliper and see if they can address that at the same time. Brakes fine, just more travel and a sound!

Hopefully just a quickie:

We cleaned the rubber thing under the throttle (pic attached) a couple of weeks ago as it seemed to have some oil on it, and now some is back. It's clearly a slow leak (maybe it's just the hose clip needs tightening?), but it'd be good to know what that rubber thing is so we can look into stopping the leak.

Thanks, C

The rubber thing is the air sock between the fuel distributor and throttle body Chris. The oil looks like it's come from someone spraying the ball joint on the throttle linkage with oil/WD40/similar and it's dripped down and spread out.

I'd suggest cleaning it and not spraying anything in the area and see what happens.

Looking at the throttle body, it does indeed seem to have the same on it, and it makes sense that it's been sprayed on and run down onto the sock as you say. We'll give that a quick wipe down too and see how it goes.
Thanks Dave.

Another request for advice?!

Car starts first time, runs great for about a minute or two, then the idle dies right down (like would have happened with a manual choke if you put it in too soon), engine struggles (almost stalling/ stopping, lots of wobbling). Then, with a little throttle for a minute or two, engine runs normally and stays that way.

We plan to do a basic service this week (plugs, oil, filter etc). A chap in the know (well, he's a body specialist but owned a 240 til a few years ago) suggested we look at injector seals, but we want to eliminate the most obvious first.

Any thoughts on where to start with this one?

Thanks
C

First thoughts Chris are either an air leak to/from the AAV or a dirty AAV. Second thoughts would be injector seals :

Granted it's for a 740 but the ideas etc are the same and your engine won't know (or care) that it's in a 240 instead.

Thanks Dave, that's tomorrow sorted! (Obviously I had to search AAV, but got there... :-) )

Just having a quick fiddle before the lad gets out of bed, I notice that the pipe connecting to the top of the AAV has quite slack wiggle room (push on/ pull off of a good few mm, if that makes sense) - should that be tighter fitting? If so, is it worth putting a jubilee clip on to try?

Edit to add pic of the hose...

That sounds like it's not sealing properly Chris and would give the symptoms you describe - a Jubilee clip should help but warm the end of the hose in some hot water first to soften it.
