MY2010 XC90 Towbar wiring
Just wanted to say ..
I ordered my tow bar wiring from Simon at FRF. List price for the 7 pin wiring was just under £20, ( 13 pin £84.20) and tow bar control unit was £36. Part numbers are 7 Pin Wiring Kit: [30756530] 13 Pin Wiring Kit: [30756531] Trailer Module: [30664974] You need the Trailer module + 7 or 13 pin wiring kit. With the discount from Simon I paid just over £50 even with postage. Parts arrived 36 hours after ordering. Install was very, very easy. I ordered 7 pin wiring, which allows option to passthrough power / fog light or reverse. If you don't want any then no pins need changing. The instructions will have you take half the car apart, but you don't need to. The socket on the rear fuse panel is reachable without taking out the rear panel. Wiring comes up through existing battery drain hole. Earth feed by battery. Then connect one plug to fuse panel and add 2 fuses. Job done. If any one needs any more info let me know. |

Instructions are here..
http://vccs.volvocars.se/accessories...turecode=en-GB Follow steps 41, 42, 43 ... then you can skip steps 44 to 47c.. Then follow step 48.. then if you are installing 7 pin wiring and don't need a charge/reverse or fog wiring up you can skip all of steps 49a - 51B.. Then follow 52 to 55 and you are done. I have no idea how or why the ebay sellers offer /get away with selling 7 pin plug and play wiring at over £100 - it makes no sense when the Volvo original kit is little over £50 and so simple to install. Intsructions state that SW upgrade only needed to disable fog ligts. No mention of parking sensors. Last edited by XCF; Mar 13th, 2010 at 22:40. |

Take a look at the official Volvo XC60 7 pin tow bar installation instructions here ... http://vccs.volvocars.se/accessories...3-e8851923adb7 There looks to be no difference to the XC90 installation I have just completed, as the Volvo loom connects in the same way as on the XC90. |

I find I need to correct myself
The XC90 has had Canbus since May 04 so i guess it ALSO needs a software update also to ensure that the systems work correctly when a trailer is fitted. This site giveS a run down of the systems that are affected on an XC60 http://www.rightconnections.co.uk/vi...php?page_id=21 |

Interestingly the XC60 instructions make no reference to any optional or mandatory SW download... |

I'm waiting on delivery of an XC90 Executive and was going to lash out on a genuine Volvo towbar and electrics, however, the prices seem excessive, hence my interest in this thread. Can you please give more information on the supply and fitting of the after market tow bar and electrics you refer to (Simon at FRF? etc.).
Thanks in anticipation! |

See this post http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?p=633939 He supplied me the 7 pin wiring ( comes with 7 pin socket pre attached ) and new gromit to replace existing gromit in boo floor, along with towbar control module. With delivery ( next day signed for) total was £52. (13 pin was more) . Installing was so very easy. I know a lot of people say things with cars are easy and with a new car this can be quite daunting, but there are no panels to remove that need any tools. You need a 13mm socket set to get battery cover off and and 10mm to attach ground connection. The rest is done with your fingers alone and could be done in about 5 mins. I have bought the Westfalia towbar - because it's not visible from the rear of the car when detached. You could have this fitted by a towbar specialist, but I will fit mine with a friend (need two pairs of hands to lift into position and bolt on. ) I got my Westfalia towbar from PF Jones - £174 delivered. No SW download needed as I don't want fog lights disabling as I will just use towbar for a bike rack. |

On the fitting Nick, as i have just done mine, i found it usefull to also unbolt the second exhuast mount that is on the rear subframe/axel as it gave me more room to get at the bolts that side as it a bit tight on room.
