Cheap diesel???

Here`s a long shot.......I`m looking for a cheap diesel due to me now doing more driving to work and back, and would like to save money on fuel, while still driving a Volvo! I`ll consider anything, as long as its a diesel with some T&T.

Here`s hoping.....

Diesel 740/940s aren't cheap to run as they are almost as thirsty as petrol variants.
All the cheap diesels i've had cost a fortune repairing and far out weighed the saving in fuel.

I think the thing to bear in mind with the diesel 740/940 is that the engine is not as durable as the volvo petrol 4s, and nowhere near as tolerant of neglect. I have seen a few for sale cheap on ebay with 250k on the clock but I don't think I would risk this with a diesel variant. My 740td was low mileage when I bought it, and apart from servicing I havent really had to touch it.. I'm getting 40 mpg which I wouldnt say was thirsty. regular servicing is ESSENTIAL with this engine
