V50 SE D3 Engine required.
Hi do any of you guys know the difference between the different engine codes and are the engines interchangeable
My engine code is D5204T5. seems to be fairly rare. and where available expensive. My question is could i fit a D5204T2 D5404T3 or D5204T6 in place of mine. Whats the difference if any. thanks for all your help guys. |

Why do you require an engine ? . IS it just a damged crank or cylinder that is the problem or is the cylinder head damaged as well ? .
Your engine shares the same common 2lt 5 cylinder block , so it should be possible to fit your head & ancillaries to the new engine block All these engines share the five-cylinder block, although not all consistently used the 'D5' badge over time. This is due to changes in hardware and the specific model the engine was deployed in. E.g. On the S60 -05 range, the D5244T was labelled 'D5', and subsequently the D5244T5 was labelled '2.4D' as a (software) detuned version of the D5244T4 'D5' on the 05-09 range

I am fairly new to the world of Volvo but i was under the impression the D3 was the same block as a D5 but shorter stroke, and the D4 is the same but different software, I know that doesn't help much.
I would imagine any of the 5 cylinder blocks would physically fit but it would be software ECU issues that could curtail those swaps. |

Replacement engine required due to Aux drive belt failure following an accident.
Then domino effect to take out timing belt. when this happened the Tensioner Pulley was ripped off the block. NOT GOOD. was hoping to swap out block , head and sump together. |

If it was an accident & the insurance company are invovled , let them source & sort out the replacement engine .

IF only it was that easy.
lets just say, eyes opened. next time i will not be so accommodating. if i am ever in another accident insurance can collect it from where it stops. Oh and lying main stealers too. |

The problem you have is that the V50 uses the shorter version of the engine fitted into the bigger cars so you need an engine either out of another V50 or a V40,
I believe the D3 and D4 5 pot engines are the same lump just the ecu mapping that is differant so that widens your options a little
