144 Back Seat
Hi There
Can anyone tell me, is it easy to remove and refit the backseat in a 144? I've taken the squab out before to fit some belts and that was easy, but wandering about the seat backs? Equally, do the front seats simply bolt in and out and can I remove / refit without messing with the handbrake mechanism? Many Thanks

Seat removal
If I remember correctly, along the upper edge (next to the parcel shelf) there are a couple of metal lugs about 2ft apart protruding downwards into the boot space. The seat back can be lifted out once these are slightly bent away in the boot.
However, before that, at the extreme bottom corners (visible when rear doors open, down the lowest rearward area next to doorway trim) there are chunky metal lugs hooked round a bendable flap on the cars inner rear wheel arch in that area. Hope my memory is good as haven't done the job for ages. P |

Yup, from what I remember that's about right, it's unfortunately not a case of bolt removal but bending the aforementioned clips. They are spring steel and strong....I remember using a grinder...

All Model years are the same, Bend the bottom corner metal tags up release the bottom part of the seat and push the whole seat back upwards. It should then release form the top.

Thanks Triple, Guitarman and 140.....
I'm actually putting some 164 seats in, and as Guitarman's is a 164 I'm guessing it's the same clip situation. So the grinder was due to the clips being tricky to bend???

as has been said if you release the bottom bits, you should be able to pop the top clips out fairly easily, mine came out quite easily when I swapped for 240 seats.
