Advice on my 1978 245 cold start issue
Hi everyone - I just bought my first volvo, a 1978 245 wagon... I'm a mechanical novice but I've already replaced the timing/drive belts (love how easy this car is to work on compared to newer cars!) It runs good but has a hard time cold starting; it'll start but die right away, or sometimes not start at all, just cranks. If it does start I can usually keep it from dying by pulsing the gas petal for a few minutes until I get a stable idle. It never dies on me while I'm driving. Also starts right up once the engine is warm. Any ideas what this could be? Battery is brand new. Someone suggested the cold start injector but I thought that only engaged in cold conditions, and I live in a warm climate. But like I said I'm a novice. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Does this model have the Auxiliary Air Valve :~
If so it is worth checking that it is open when the engine is colder. This post has some details. https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...-closed-85204/ Good Luck. Bob. |
