Default Buying help please

Hi

I’m looking to sell my mrs Citroen ds3 and get a xc60 due to our family extending.

What should I be looking out for?

Looking to purchase a d4 or d5 r design in auto. Got a rough budget of £12k.

Any help appreciated.

Well, I just bought a 2015 XC60 D4 auto, with no particular knowledge of the Volvo brand beforehand.

Common sense applies - service history is paramount, mine had full stamped main dealer history with 2.0 premium services. I checked with the dealer about recalls etc and they had all been taken care of on time.

It's the usual things like smooth shifting, body condition, interior wear, tyre wear, check the oil / water - makes sure there's no contamination. Check all the electrics work.

A lot of folks will say the D5 (5 cylinder) is a lot more reliable then a 4 cylinder D4. Be aware though as Volvo also badge a reduced tune version of the D5 as a D4 in the AWD models

I would also check on the Euro emission standard of the engine if you need to go into a LEZ. My 2014 2.4 V60 5 cylinder has to pay a surcharge to enter LEZs.

Well I’ve done. Put deposits down on a 2012 xc60 d5 r design lux. He had it up for £11.5k but managed to haggle down to £11.1 k.

Full service history and timing belt just done by the garage.

Nice motor. A known good model, the same as mine having said that mines a manual tho. The later models might be greener but a hell of a lot more expensive but not as good IMO. The newer variants have a lot of engine probs according to this forum.
On the last MOT mine did register zero emissions! So Fairly green.
Just saving up for a EV suv. only another 20 years and might be able to afford one. Apparently they cost more to run overall a real temptation🙄

Isn't the Aux belt due too, plus tensioner IIRC - these are the ones that occasionally cause issues, not the cambelt.

THIS

I've just had to get rid of a perfectly good Insignia thanks to the LEZ, expect it to get harsher on Euro 5 and below derv's as time moves on, my car has been off the road a month now and I'm suspecting they've parted it instead of selling it or maybe even just scrapped it under a hidden Gov initiative, in pukka condition, not been round the clock good spec I let it go for a fifth of what you're about to shell out.

I here you. Forcing people to make horrible expensive decisions. Coming to a city near me soon called Sheffield the Red Republic of South Yorkshire no doubt🙄. SEZ!
BTW. Public transport outside most cities North of Watford is rhubarb, So IMO the local governments etc couldn't run a Christmas club never mind a society and they get paid to sort it all out by us😂🤣
