Default 2013 V70 intermittent Stop/Start

Recently purchased V70 auto 2013 estate.

For some reason the Stop/Start is working intermittently at traffic lights. Any ideas why this might be? The dashboard light is on green.

There are various conditions/requirements that will make Start/Stop function properly.

Like engine temperature, battery SoC (state of charge), actual electrical power consumption and so on...

So, if everything on the list is not right it will not work as expected.

Do you know the health, and how old is your main battery?

Also, there is a smaller second support battery and that one must also be healthy.

BTW, which engine is in your V70?

The first thing you should do , especially as the car may have been standing around for a long time... take the battery off and put it on a charger for 48 hours day and night. this should rejuvenate it. Batteries are not easily charged by the engine like they used to be, with the new Battery management systems on a modern car.

At least on our XC70 from 2016, there is a screen in the center display that tells you what the reason for start/stop not working is. You can check there.

Thank you for feedback. It sounds like it might be battery related. The main battery is a gel volvo battery, so should cope with stop start, but might be on its way out.

Or sulphated, in which case the method I described will help, I have recovered many poorly diagnosed as failed volvo batteries by this method. try it.

Some modern chargers have a battery desulfate option to to break the sulphur from the battery plates but you can purchase a clipon desulfator for an ordinary charger.

BTW, it's not gel, it is AGM battery. That is not the same stuff.

Yes, you are right. It says AGM on it and has a little voltage regulator I guess for the stoo start

That'll be the battery sensor which, as Hal mentioned earlier, monitors the State of Charge.

In an attempt to eliminate an alarm issue I am currently, no pun intended, charging the main battery (AGM) in the '15 V70 and once that's fully charged will then move over to smaller support battery behind the main battery.

Interestingly, I kept the Radio/Nav/Sensus switched off all week whilst the car was in use and wasn't greeted by the flashing LED on top off the dash each time I unlocked it.
