A bit unfair to average out over the entire 120k! Mine didn't use any oil until over 70k had been covered.

I believe I recall you saying during the last year that you'd had to perform your first top-up? So it looks like the 'problem' had only then started on your engine, so perhaps fairer to chart the consumption from whatever the mileage was at the first top-up.

Fair enough. For the first 3 years no top ups at all. Last three years .5 ltrs per year doing an average of 20k per year. More than happy with that.

That's about a third of my consumption, but I'm also happy... she had a compression test back in March when the intake manifold was replaced in the recall and all was fine. It's just a piston oil control issue and oil-burning on a diesel seems trivial to me!

Cheapest Vea spec oil I have found which should be fine for those needing regular top ups.

Default High oil consumption on D4 engine D4204T5

Regards high oil consumption on D4 engine D4204T5

I can tip in here on my D4 engine D4204T5

Bought in Denmark as a used car in july 2019 the speedo said 100.000 km.
The EGR cooler and EGR valve replacement has been fixed by recall from Volvo at 109.000

Perhaps...
EGR problem and Oil consumption are linked.

EGR not fixed make lot of soots.
Soots come into the cylinder , soot + oil clog the piston rings.
Then piston rings become inefficients.
And then the motor burn oil.. and make more soots ...

Did the EGR clog the pistons perhaps ??

Note that Volvo DK will not help me, but they know about this high oil consumption issue, but the issue is not big and not common for all.... equal to not do a recall or a bulletin service to fix this.

The car dealer the same.... the error was not on the car when i bought it means I have to prove this issue was there before i got it - and this is what i'm trying now.

The first time I can prove that i added ½ a liter was around 105.000km, means that the car at that point was ok according to the car dealer

See image from Volvo here:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/MLSZpFmhmh859fvs5

This is my use of oil for a period of the last 20.000km
130.472 km Service and new oil at a Volvo workshop.
132.070 km Oli added = 1.598km since last
133.439 km Oli added = 1.369km since last
134.939 km Oli added = 1.500km since last
136.298 km Oli added = 1.359km since last
137.593 km Oli added = 1.295km since last
138.995 km Oli added = 1.402km since last
140.004 km Oli added = 1.009km since last
141.069 km Oli added = 1.065km since last
142.221 km Oli added = 1.152km since last
143.720 km Oli added = 1.499km since last
144.895 km Oli added = 1.175km since last
145.939 km Oli added = 1.044km since last
147.155 km Oli added = 1.216km since last
147.916 km Oli added = 761km since last
148.750 km Oli added = 834km since last

The car is used daliy around 80km total
If it's under 10-7deg. we use the motor heater
It goes around 19-20km per liter and we use V-power diesel
I use Castrol Edge Professional V 0W-20

This guy talks and show how to fix the piston issue

The EGR cooler problem is where it becomes blocked and prevents EGR flow back into the intake manifold. So the engine would then actually be running cleaner.

I wouldn't put my VIN on an open forum!

I realise that thieves, cloners and other conmen can glean this information from your car in the street, but I wouldn't want to make it this easy for them. Especially as quoting the VIN here isn't necessary and doesn't help.
