I reckon a two tone paint job would really suit a 164 as they have a bit of an American vibe about them, how about keeping beige roof and doing the rest a metallic green or blue.
What do you think of narrow white wall tyres, ive seen lots of 164s on them, personally I don't like em on European cars. I'm considering colour coding the wheels on my 164 which is easy and reversible. Jimmy |

The whitewalls are in the pipeline. I'm a bit restricted in colour change as the bureaucracy involved in colour change is horrendous.

Colour is a very personal thing isn't it? Go with what you like.
I have never liked that yellow. My uncle bought a 144 new in 1971 - I hated the colour then (aged 6!) and I haven't changed my view! If changing from "beige" (officially) is difficult, what about this? Although I would call it gold, in the back of my mind, I think that this colour was actually called "beige" by Volvo is some markets/translations. So maybe you would not need to go through the official colour change process...? John |

Problem here. Checked paint code on car. reads 97 however on checking codes 97 is yellow amazon & 1800, 68/69. As far as I can tell the car has NOT been repainted, door shuts, engine bay, boot and and interior beige. ???

That doesn't look right at all. The stamping is wrong. The factory plates have raised stamps. (Stamped from behind)

97 is called Sahara gul in a Swedish MY 1969 brochure. I think the English name was Sahara yellow.
Nice old weathered color, I think. Very typical of early 140's, this color was not used again on later models. It was also available on the Amazon, with Beige interior as well. You can find the brochure here: http://volvo1800pictures.com/bros/bros.htm The ID plate is a bit different than most, but a lot of variations exist of almost any thing Volvo made or sold in those days. Like chromed steel bumpers on the SA production. Last edited by marcmarel; Nov 22nd, 2010 at 20:28. |
