S60 Electrics: - Rear Parking Sensors.

Hi all,

I have fitted a rear parking sensor kit to my S60 (2004). The system works great but the buzzer sounds weak and awful.

Has anyone got tips on either a better system with a 'nice' sounding buzzer or if it is possible to buy and fit an oem system that would mute the stereo etc...Without having to pay the main dealers high fitting cost. It would be interesting to know exactly what is already in the car and how it could be utilised.

My S60 had a OEM fitted reverse sensor kit fitted. Works very well but does not mute the radio when I reverse but I can hear it easily over the radio.

If you do a search you'll find a few posts from me on the same topic.

Unfortunately if you want what you describe it will have to be a dealer job. I have a basic volvo kit put in which first which had the buzzer you describe, I found it 'weak' as well. I then took back to dealer and got them to upgrade it to the varient that mutes the stereo, beeps through the speakers and displays reversing aid on the stereo.

This upgrade requires (depending on model year) an AEM module put in with loom and software upgrade, then another software upgrade to the main unit to activate the functions through the stereo. Not something that can be done outstide a dealership I think

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, it is worth it but it is expensive!

Firstly, is the kit you installed a Volvo unit or a third party aftermarket?
The buzzer has a turn-screw that can be tweaked to adjust the volume.

If it's Volvo then you can upgrade to the AEM system. You'll need an AEM module (£35), wiring looms (possibly £30) and software installing by the dealer. It's not difficult to fit, I installed the AEM system parking sensors on my S60.

Hello All,
I have a similar problem with my 2006 V70 which has had the reversing aid since new.

My radio does not 'mute' it displays the "reversing aid operative" message on the radio but continues to play CD's and radio at normal volume.

There is a soft beeping which increases in frequency as usual. Any suggestions?

Buzzers are easily available on rs components or cpc or wherever, if you wanted to replace. Im guessing it just runs at 12v

1st thing I would try though is relocate existing buzzer closer to you. Under rear seats maybe or above roof lining. Should be a simple case of adding lengths of wiring

You could deal with music in the time honored fashion of using the volume control, but if it was closer / louder maybe you wouldn't need to

My previous car had one that was so pathetic I couldn't bring myself to change it, it was a great source of general mirth to all who got a lift. Especially when you took it out of reverse and the buzzing faded away like it was dying

I think actually I'd put it under the centre console, that would be pretty easy to do. and plenty of space just make sure it doesn't tangle in the handbrake cables
