Good result for the day, I managed to cut and lift the repair inner wing to the correct position and in the process fettled the transition from the repair section to the lower inner wing. Still got more repairs to do on the cowl section and a couple of other bits but very happy how that all went today.

Slow going wee fiddly repairs but slowly coming together. Probably looks better in the flesh than the pics. Hopefully can get a cowl panel for the other side..

Been there; but, not nearly as bad as yours. That upper rear corner in the front wheel well might as well have a sign posted 'Rust Welcome'. Rusting is ably assisted by the thick bitumen undercoating that Volvo applied. After the coating ages, cracks and peels a bit it then forms nice voids to trap moisture against the steel.

They’ve had a couple of repairs previously so will cut them out to make sure it’s okay. No luck finding replacement cowls. The chassis rail lips which joins the inner wings acts like a cup, no wonder they go. Lots of areas on the 140 traps muck.

Got the wee curved repair tigged in and should match up nicely with the top repair. I didn't mess about trying to make it an invisible repair considering where it is as long as it's strong and with tig I get good pen so all good.

Hi Mitch,

Good work as always, just out of interest, what ate the oddly shaped clamps/holders?? I've a few old butt welding clamps somewhere, but yours look to be perhaps magnetic??

I'm on a slippery slope, trip down to Somerset next Thursday, to pick up a job lot of metal cabinets for my new garage workshop extension i have ongoing. Coincidentally it's a couple of miles away from a certain grey 145. pocket will have a few extra £ to secure it as he's indicated coming down a fair chunk of money.

Cheers
Steve

They’re old computer hard drive magnets. I have a bucket full of them, they are fantastic as they are super strong.

Good stuff at the right price it will be a great project car. You can use this thread for all the places to check. 😁👍

Now that's scuppered me, I've perhaps mistakenly thought computer drives etc and magnets should not be in close proximity??

However Googling that is a veritable feast of choice, you learn something every day

Cheers

Great thread Burdekin, I'm impressed greatly. I'm pretty handy and can twirl a spanner, although I generally pay others to do it, but I'm in away of folk with this level of skill, equipment, knowledge and determinationl
