I knew it must be technically possible. Why then, did O2 act as if I was asking for the moon when I requested the same service? Unfortunately Orange reception in my area is poor so I locked into O2.

AFAIK Orange UK are the only Mobile network provider that will provide a second SIM card
Have you checked the Orange cover in your area since they teamed up with T-Mobile ?
( If no Orange service in the area but there is T-Mobile coverage then the phone will use the T-Mobile network ).

I set the car phone up as my favourite number, so all calls to it are free (Orange) so when my phone diverts to it, its costs me nothing :-)

Lightbulb I looked at this too.

My plan was to get a Parrot MKi9200 Car Kit installed.

They [Parrot] also sell a component called Unika - this is a device that allows you to use the in built steering wheel controls to control the MKi9200.

The problem I discovered, is that the Unika is only compatible with XC90's from 2007 onwards, like you, mine is a 2005 so this option was closed to me.

I think I will contact Parrot again though to see if this situation has changed at all.
