D5254T (to 2002, Audi) - fuel filter wont undo

I have undone the three 6mm bolts and tapped the filter outer housing down out the way. Grabbed hold of the filter and with all my might it wont undo. Am i doing something wrong. Should i be undoing the top centre nut where the banjo joint is but this looks like it has never been removed as there apears to be no marks on it. I gave up and left it. I also changed the oil and filter but thismorning when i went to start it there was nothing. The car spun over fine but did not fire at all. I feel like i may have dislodged a wire or something, maybe when i replaced the top cover hiding the injectors. Your help would be appreciated.

I needed to use an oil filter wrench with a nylon loop and extension bars. The banjo nut had to be held when the new filter was screwed on. It was best to fill the new filter with clean diesel before fitting.

Probably not recommended and a messy method is to make a hole through it big enough to take a metal rod and twist it off that way

No need at all for all this struggling :-)
Just undo the banjo bolt and nut on top and unscrew it a few turns , you will find the filter releases then as you are in effect unscrewing the centre stub which the filter screws on to ...

Yep all done. Simple when you know how. Like clan said just loosen banjo nut and then loosen lwer nut. Filter spun off simple. I then had to fill new filter with diesel as the pump just would not drag it through and start the car. Is this a common problem as i have been servicing my dads non volvo diesels for years, filters and oils and never had a problem with pumping the fuel through and self bleeding

It starts eventually assuming you have a good battery. Yes, it's better to fill the filter with diesel but I never have as I don't have a convenient supply. Regards.
