Makes a huge difference at near tickover along with the more advanced ignition. You don't need revs to pull off (1000 is enough for a strong pull of the mark). I kept stalling the 87 360 GLT, 940 Turbo and 323i after having driving the 87 360 GLE for so long.

They kept the same overall power in the low compression version by changing the cam and moving the power band up the revs with more dwell and lift. There is a table about somewhere with all the figures.

B200E on a 360 is not the same as a 700/900 B200E. You can't use the short engine code to determine the cam or compression. You need an 2nd letter (eg B200EO).

low compression cam is A cam. high compression K, I think, might be the other way round or different again for injection.
That's some great info, thanks.
I read somewhere on 300mania that in NZ we have the B200EO engines.

In NZ we got the Aus spec cars so I'm guessing mine's high compression as Aus only got the sportier cars, so that means it's a K cam.

I haven't had a chance to have a look what my cam is but you've just saved me time and money.

Would a compression test tell me what i have in terms of ratio? I'm planning on turbo'ing my 86 and maybe the 87 but i don't want to destroy them by running boost on a high comp motor. I have a b200FT turbo setup waiting.

When I saw the new listing saying the turbo setup was sold I thought it might have been you that bought it

Have fun fitting it muhahahaha if you do a write up on it, it would be interesting to see how you solve the problems with turboing the B200E

As you probably saw I'm getting the water and oil lines so i can mock up and mark where to drill. I'm getting a early 850 turbo intercooler kit for the R so i will have access to enough bends and curves. I can adjust the oxygen level going in to the motor so my only issue is fuel pressure and exhaust pipe. and fuel injector's if i run decent poundage.

The 2.0 injection engine in a 360 (LE-Jet electronic injection) always had an A cam, right from the '83 B19E to the '89 low-compression B200E.
The B200E in a 740 (K-Jet mechanical injection) always had a V cam. I didn't realise 240s were different!

The K came in the 1981-1984 B23E in the early 240 GLT. The H was in the 1980 version. (Could be 82-84 and 81...I'm slightly rusty on 240s, pardon the pun...)

cheers

James
