Default 940 SE POOR FUEL CONSUMPTION

Hello, I have used this service before with admirable success, thought I would try this service for another problem. My pride and joy is a 1990 940SE auto saloon, fitted with B200F engine. It seems to have a considerable thirst for fuel.I used to be able to achieve almost 300 miles to a tankful. The norm is 260. Of late I am only able to achieve about 80 miles to half a tank and the way its going I will be lucky to get 200 miles !!I don't consider myself to be heavy footed and don't race the car on the highway.Admittedly most of my journeys are less than 4 miles each way every day.If this persists then I may have to consider parting with my car.The car is due for a service and I average no more than 6500 a year.Anyone please help

Sounds as if the car is trying to tell you to get it serviced. I would suggest a new set of plugs and leads, thorough clean of the distributor (might need replacing if old and cracked) replace rotor and thoroghly clean inlet tract and use fuel/injector cleaner in a full tank of fuel. Follow all this by an Italian tune up and see how it performs then. If performance is restored then do the rest of the service.

All the best, Peter

Peter, ref my question on the 850 forum about my 19.5-28 mpg 855 2.5 20V auto and using injector or fuel system cleaners such as STP or Redex. Have you had good experiences with these treatments?

Thanks
Gary McKinney

I regularly use the Redex treatment (or one obtainable at Halfords) in my 945 Turbodiesel and have nothing but praise for it. Use a 120mL dose every five -ten tankfuls in a full tank.

All the best, Peter
