Default No Overdrive

I have just bought a 1992 940 (another one).

The overdrive is not working, no click, no light on the dash, nothing at all.

Checked the fuses under the ashtray and it looks OK.

If it is an electrical fault am I right in thinking that it is either a relay or the solenoid?

If so, where are they and how do I fix?

Could be the relay.

Are the OD wires under the gear knob intact? remove the gear knob and check the wires

check the leads n/side of top of overdrive gearbox, drive car on ramp check leads are fitted if fitted then it is the relay.

i had this problem
first check ,,no 12 fuse first (ok)
take the top off the relay, and press the contact,
click in the gearbox (ok)
now take the plug from the 4th gear switch and short to earth (ok)

each one of the tests will tell you the problem
fuse blown is a earthing out problem
relay not doing its job (no click)
earth out this switch and it works , replace the switch
and one to look for
left hand side under the car, is one of two bars that hold the bracket for the gear shift ,and it has a bracket to hold the overdrive wires ,
my car had gear box removed not long ago ,and they must have forgot to put a tie wrap on,
and it cut the wires ,
thats was my problem , now it works fine , apart from i have o/d in every gear ,4th inhibiter is us , have to get new switch
