Question v40 central locking problems help!!!

I recently bought a volvo v40 estate with no owners manual, yesterday my partner put our baby daughter in the car with the keys on her lap when she closed the door the car locked its self, i had to break the window to get in the car as we have no spare key. Can anyone tell me if this is a fault or a feature of the car and if so can it be switched off, also can you lock the car without turning the alarm on. Hope someone can help, cheers

Its a feature of the car, mine will only re-lock itself if I havant opened any of the doors as it picks up a voltage drop from the courtsey light when the doors opened.I would check to see if the courtsey light is working when you open the door,as my O.S.R door didnt have a switch on the wheel arch and I couldnt work out why the doors locked even when I opened the rear door.It wasnt untill I looked and found the switch missing. Iam sure someone else on here will give you some other advice.

As said, it's a feature of the car. When you unlock the car with the fob and you don't open the drivers door, within approximately 2 minutes, it will re-lock itself. You can lock the car from the drivers door with the key and the alarm will not be armed. You can also lock with the fob, wait a few seconds and unlock with the fob...and as you now know...don't open the door and it will now lock itself without the alarm.

Are you confused yet
