Default 54k - Authorised Service Centre or Not??

So as some of you know, I am a bit new to all of this, having gone from a 1600 1973 VW campervan to a 2.4i V50. I've only just bought it and it hasn't been serviced since Feb. of last year. With 40k on the clock, it's overdue its 54k/3 year service. Local authorised centre, Parkside Volvo, have quoted just over £300 for the service. How expensive is this? Has anybody any experience of Parkside. I do have another option, a garage that I use for MOTs, which I guess would be cheaper, but my concern would then be whether or not they would have the specialised knowledge, right parts and diagnostic equipment to do the job properly. What are your thoughts with regards servicing? Any recommendations in Kent? Thanks.

My last service at VolvoMax - a very well regarded Volvo specialist garage here in Scotland (car was on 52000 miles)

was £75

Go to a good specialist! You're getting overcharged.

Ford garages should also be able to service an S40/V50 as the oily bits are pure focus.

Blimey. I thought that Parkside would be expensive, but I hadn't figured on that much. Presumably £75 didn't include the cost of oil, filters etc? Thing is, if you look at the service log book, they don't actually do that much. It's all check this, check that (mainly fluid levels which I could do) and not much more.

This afternoon, rang around several garages, Volvo specialist and non-specialist and the prices range from £140 plus parts up to £350 all incl. with a few around the £250 incl. mark.
