Hi, i once spent over 6 months fitting a renault 5 gordini turbo engine into a 340. was a joke at running but when started she flew.
there was a 360 turbo model made for the german market. it was a 1.9 self contained carburettor turbo engine. this was only available in left hand drive because the steering column on the right hand drive woulod have gone straight through the middle of the turbo. i managed to get round this using very old ford anglia nad land rover steering box with links and joints. took some figuring out. best of luck |

um ok
i would first of get a 360 donor car to start with with rigid rear axle then i would look on a bay for a b200ft from a 940 the take the running gear out of donor also rear suspension and front suspension and rack and fit to ur 340 then drop the b200ft in there and u will have 2 litre turbo which will probably set u back a grand if u are doing it urself when u have the 360 stick the seats in the 340 also a lot nicer lol the other thing u will need to do is fit a big brake kit <extra tho sorry to say > change the rear to disk as well i think the 360 had rear disk i cant remember of the top of my head u will have a nice car if u are having the car resprayed have the shell hot galved and i have no doubt u will see no rust for enoughter 20 years remember that when u have it galved the paint shop will have to use a lot of filer to smooth the body out don't let them sand down the galv other wise it was pointless |

360's had rear drums, the 360 variants are an inch bigger than 340 rear drums IIRC.
If you're going for the Volvo 2.0 or 2.3 turbo, then a 360 is the best base to start with - with a stronger drivetrain and a bellhousing that will allow for the turbo engine swap. You should physically be able to bolt in the turbo lump without any issues, only requiring a custom downpipe if you use a 91- manifold and Mitsubishi 13c turbo, this just clears the engine mount and inner wing. The difficult part will be wiring up the fuel injection system... either requiring aftermarket Megasquirt or ripping apart the donor car to extract the relevant parts of the wiring loom. However, there are other options such as the B18FT as fitted to 400 series turbo's, which would bolt right into a 340 bellhousing. A stronger custom prop would be needed to take the power, they are famed for stripping splines. A further common swap is a late N/A Renault 16v engine. To an extent the standard brakes should cope fine, as long as the components and fluid are fresh - it makes a massive difference. They only seem to be troublesome under hard and persistent braking during a short period of time. Same said for the drivetrain, the diff is the 'weakest' part but unless you're going for 300nm+ of torque then I wouldn't personally worry about it judging from the cars over on www.300power.com Hope this helps Last edited by SteveP; Jun 27th, 2007 at 14:48. |
