Trip computer screen works, then turns off
Hello everyone!
So as the title reads, the trip computer screen in my -01 S60 works great for the first few seconds after start up, and then it dies on me. The illumination for the screen is still on, but the display is blank. Is this issue familiar to anyone? Kinda hoping for an easy fix as the screen evidently works, just not for very long. |

Is there anything providing the function of an on/off switch which might be worn/loose/dirty?
Is there a fuse which you can pull to effect a complete power-down and hopefully effect a reset? These are shots in the dark. |

There is no on/off switch, as far as I'm aware. I have also had the whole cluster out of the car to look for anything visibly broken, so is has been without power for a while. Haven't disconnected the battery completely though, now that you mention it. I'll try it, but I doubt it'll make a difference. But I'll try. |

just a general point to note I would disconnect the battery when removing or disconnecting any of the modules as a rule
otherwise you can end up with unexpected effects such as the fairly well known removal of A/C panel kicks up SRS fault ? why they wired it like that is anyone's guess |

Could be failing solder joints in the pcb in the cluster, believe it was a common fault on clusters without the chrome rings around the rev counter and speedo dials.

SOLVED!!
I just wanted to update this, for the people who may google this in the future. As it turns out, it was the processor in the cluster that was bad. Apparently it's a common issue on these cars. Eventually the whole cluster died. Then I found a Polish guy who buys these processors from China and replaces them. Now it all works great, apart from that the temp needle now for whatever reason sits a bit too low. But I can live with that. The guy lives north of Stockholm. I'd be happy to get you in touch with him if you need a similar fix. He also has the gear needed to copy all the data to a new unit. |
